1. Mixing with Compost
Westland Potting Grit can be used to provide extra drainage in compost for plants such as cacti and other plants that require well drained roots. Add approximately one handful of grit (40-50g) to each litre of compost and mix well.
2. Pot Topping
Many plants such as alpine and cacti do not like moisture. To aid drainage and to keep the foliage dry remove 1-2cm of compost from the pot and replace with Westland Potting Grit. This provides an attractive finish to the pot and also aids watering.
3. Use in Ponds & Aquariums
Westland Potting Grit provides an ideal base for plants to root into and gives a natural look to ponds and aquariums. During transport, the Potting Grit will have created a small amount of dust, remove this by washing in a clean bowl with several changes of water. Line the base of the pond or aquarium with a layer of grit 2-3cm deep.
Potting Grit can also be used to anchor aquatic plants in ponds.
4. Use on Potting Benches
Westland Potting Grit makes an excellent base for potting benches to aid drainage4.50
